Carpentry

Carpenters are artists who use wood as their preferred medium. Carpenters, or woodworkers create and fit all wooden structures in the building industry.

They facilitate the cutting, shaping, and installation of wooden building materials in the construction of personal and commercial buildings. They also build and sculpt wooden instruments and objects not related to the building or construction industry.

    What will you learn?

    Mathematics:

Mathematics or ‘math’ is the study of numbers: quantity, structure, space, and change. Often referred to as the quest for absolutes, definitive solutions, and answers; all sciences require basic knowledge of the rules of mathematics.

    Building Science:

Building science encompasses everything that has to do with how external forces affect building structures. The subject is designed to equip learners with the skills to predict and prevent building structural failures. This will include the study of indoor thermal environment, indoor light environment, indoor acoustic environment, indoor air quality, and building use of energy and materials.

    Building Drawing:

Similar to Engineering drawings, building drawings are a subsection of technical drawing. Technical drawings include measurements, dimensions, and every detail needed to ascertain the strength, capabilities, and weaknesses of theoretical structures. Engineering drawings use standardised language and symbols so that engineers understand the drawings implicitly, with no room for interpretation. Accuracy is the most vital aspect of the technical engineering drawing process.

    Woodworkers Theory:

The theoretical side of Woodworking focuses on joinery and structural concepts, the history of carpentry, as well as how modern-day infrastructure has evolved.

    Carpentry and Roofing Theory:

Carpentry and Roofer’s theory focuses on several intersections between Carpentry and roofing, including Setting-Out of Buildings, Roof Construction and Covering, Construction of Ceilings, Dormer Roof Construction Roof Light Construction, Partitioning, Waterproofing of Roofs and Rainwater and Roofer’s Tools.

    Building and Civil Technology:

Building and Civil Technology teaches the basic concepts and principles of the built environment and the technological processes involved in construction, civil services, steel structures, waterworks and woodwork (among others). It embraces practical skills and the application of scientific principles
